General Raheel Sharif – belonging to a family originating from the town of Kunjah, Gujrat -having a prominent Military Background, was born in Quetta – June 1956. He is the youngest son of (Late) Major Rana Muhammad Sharif, his eldest brother- Major Shabbir Sharif was declared as the martyr of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War recieving Pakistan’s highest Military Award Nishan-e-Haider, his other brother- Captain Mumtaz Sharif also bravely served in Pakistan army and was awarded SITARA-E- BASALAT who retired early due to medical reasons, his maternal-uncle Major Raja Aziz Bhatti, another Nishan-e-Haider recipient who was declared as the martyr of 1965 Indo-Pakistan War.

General. Sharif received his early education from Government College in Lahore, attented the Pakistan Military Academy and after graduation, he was first commissioned into the 6th Battelion, then was appointed as Military Secretary and in a time was assigned Command of 11th Infantary Division in Lahore by General Pervaiz Musharraf where he commanded for over 2 years. Sharif was then posted as the Commandant of Pakistan Military Academy – Kalul, following his promotion to Lieutenant General, served as a Corps Commander – Gujranwala for 2 years and then took over as Inspector General for Training and Evaluation in the Pakistan Army. General Sharif is a currently the Chief of Army Staff since 27th November 2013, conferred with Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

The recent operation named as Zarb-e-Azb i.e. an immensely successful joint military offensive against various Militant Groups, was launched on 15th June 2014 in North Waziristan after a week to the terrorist attack on Jinnah Terminal airport- Karachi. The ‘comprehensive operation’ originated to flush out all foriegn and locacl militants hidings.

General Sharif’s supreme leadership and command has brought Pakistan a sigh of relief, improvising over-all security situations and terrorist attacks in Pakistan that has dropped to 6 years low since 2008. He is truly a man of steel of the terrorists and the country.

 ‘It’s a matter of great privilege and honor to be commanding such an accomplished and battle hardened Army, We will not stop unless we achieve our end objective of a terror free Pakistan.’ Says General Raheel Sharif.
